As the intro says this is a bit of roleplay for us, we are setting up the lab as a Managed Service Provider (MSP) who wishes to have a way to tunnel in (or in this case have the client tunnel out) to HQ where we can monitor all the goodies that PRTG can monitor remotely.

Thanks for such a great post Roggy. I've been using this configuration with a particular client with great success.
It should be noted however that with Vyatta you cannot presently route multiple client side subnets back through to the server end. If you want to achieve this, you'll either need to manually edit the OpenVPN config files, or configure your vtun using site-to-site mode. I've discussed this on my blog recently: http://www.arkf.net/blog/?p=231
Took me forever to figure out why I couldn't statically route multiple subnets back through to the server end. Live and learn! haha.
